Shorts Program 2 - Irish Film Festival Boston
Featuring our 2020 Director’s Choice Short, Ruby, and our 2020 Most Inspiring Short award recipient, The Bird and the Whale, this program showcases new work from seven directors who have strong ties to the Irish Film Festival, Boston. Among the program highlights is the US Premiere of One Night at a Time, directed by our own IFF team member Mica Connors, which brought together a cast and creative team of some very familiar Irish Film Fest faces!
The Bird and The Whale / dir. Carol Freeman / Ireland / 2018 / 7 mins The Bird and the Whale is a story about a young whale struggling to find his voice. After straying too far from his family to explore a shipwreck, he discovers its sole survivor, a caged songbird. Together they struggle to survive lost at sea.
Ruby / dir. Michael Creagh / Ireland / 2018 / 19 mins A short film about love, death and crap anniversary gifts.
Paddy / dir. Roisin Kearney / Ireland / 2020 / 13 mins It’s the late 70’s in London and a new generation is asking questions and finding answers, It’s called PUNK, and it don’t matter what you are or where you’re from.
A White Horse / dir. Shaun O’Connor / Ireland / 2019 / 11 mins 1970s Ireland. A young female patient has escaped a psychiatric hospital and rings home from a telephone box…. but her parents are waiting for the call.
Mother / dir. Natasha Waugh / Ireland / 2018 / 9 mins They said there’s no replacement for a mother’s love…Hardworking mam Grace has the perfect happy family; a loving husband and two wonderful children. But when her husband arrives home one day with a brand new kitchen appliance, she slowly starts to realize that there might not be room for both of them in this house. Mother is a quirky, surrealist comedy that will lead you to question, just how necessary are you to the ones you love?
One Night at a Time / dir. Mica Connors / United States / 2019 / 11 mins Harkin, a mid forties Irish man tries to find love in all the wrong places. In the end his night turns out to be just like every other.
The Ferry / dir. Niall McKay / 2019 / Ireland / 20 mins Aoife searches for her birth mother and unveils a past that entangles two other women in town.
